After an evening of bowling (and rather a lot of cheap wine) at Brighton Marina, my friends and I decided it would be a brilliant idea to head into town for dancing and cocktails. After tottering around trying to find the best place to go (or rather, the place with the cheapest deals), we settled on Old Orleans: a fabulous two cocktails for £5.75.
I’d always thought that Old Orleans was just a TGI Friday-style American diner but on a Friday night, it’s a buzzing bar full of people in their twenties having a laugh and dancing to super-cheesy music. This particular night’s clientele included a group of both guys and girls dressed in 80s-style neon tutus and leg warmers with UV-reflective neon war-paint on their faces. Brilliant.
We settled ourselves down on some sofas and set about raiding the cocktail menu. First up was my favourite classic, the Cosmopolitan – deliciously sweet and citrusy, I was rather impressed with this one. Next, we decided to sample the bizarre Alligator Cooler which, from memory contains lemonade and Midori. Looks bizarre (and very, VERY green) but tastes great.
All-in-all, we had a great couple of hours here drinking cocktails and dancing to cheesy pop and R’n’B choons from the 90s and 00s. Not the classiest of nights out, but brilliant fun nonetheless.
